From November 14th to 20th, 2018, the first L/T/T (learning, teaching, training) of the Erasmus project SWEEP took place in Vienna under the guide of the Austrian partner organization UMBLICK Forschungs- und Bildungsverein.

On the first day of the meeting, the representatives of all partner organizations were welcomed. Multiple representatives of the partner organizations were present:

  • ASOCIATA SOCIO-CULTURAL “SFANTUL IOAN BOTEZATORUL”  – Berbesti – Romania
  • AKHISAR HALK EGITIM MERKEZI – Turkey
  • LJUDSKA UNIVERZA LENDAVA – Slovenia

Two key theme pools dominated the week in Vienna: Waste management, waste technology and recycling in each of the partner countries were complemented by additional guest lectures by experts, such as paper recycling by AustroPapier. The second focus was on an introduction to the operation of the online learning platform Moodle. During a UMBLICK-led Design Thinking, the next steps in developing the learning platform were developed. At the end of the enriching week, local waste treatment facilities and other organizations dealing with the processing and reuse of alleged waste in Vienna were interviewed and the plan for the next steps was recorded.

At the beginning of the week, Bianca Köck, MSc of UMBLICK, gave a talk on waste management in Austria and compared it with practices in other EU countries. Another lecture by Ms. Köck dealt with the technologies currently used in waste processing. Mr. Clemens Egger, MSc of UMBLICK, then gave answers to the question of why recycling is so important to the environment and has great benefits for people.
On most days, the handling of the platform as an administrator could be practiced and ambiguities eliminated. After this intensive week, L/T/T participants had a clear idea of the challenges and tasks that would require the creation of the e-learning platform with innovative content.
The facilities visited in Vienna were the 48er Tandler, which sells former waste as a used product, the waste incineration plant in Pfaffenau, the waste logistics center Vienna, the biogas plant Pfaffenau and the waste collection room “Mistplatz” in Simmering, which illustrated the composting process in the city of Vienna.
